Commercial Interior Design in Cambridgeshire: Creating a Serene Spa Space

By Pavlina Campbell:

At Pinterior.space, based near Little Gransden and Cambridge, we specialise in commercial interior design across Cambridgeshire, including Comberton, Cambourne, Bourn, and surrounding villages. This project—transforming two treatment rooms into one—showcases how design excellence, regulatory compliance, and meticulous coordination can deliver a seamless result for businesses operating in sensitive environments.

Project Brief

Our recent Spa project at Great North Road, Wyboston, Bedfordshire (MK44 3AL) reflects how design can transform hospitality spaces into timeless experiences. The client required a larger treatment space to accommodate new chairs and improve the guest experience. Two adjacent rooms were merged into one to create a calm, restorative environment that supported treatments while enhancing the spa’s overall atmosphere.

Concept Design

Located on Great North Road, Wyboston, the spa demanded bespoke solutions that balanced guest comfort with regulatory compliance. The design vision was built around curves and serenity. Curved ceilings, walls, and floor-to-ceiling curtains softened the space, while a bespoke mural inspired by Chinese and Japanese aesthetics introduced balance and tranquillity.

Lighting was redesigned with LED and wall fixtures, all dimmable, to allow the atmosphere to shift according to treatment needs. Acoustic comfort was prioritised, eliminating echo and ensuring a soothing experience.

The board includes soft neutral tones, natural textures, warm timber accents, and calming materials that evoke serenity and wellness. The palette is gentle and minimalist, with layered fabrics, stone finishes, and organic elements that reflect a tranquil, restorative atmosphere. This concept sets the foundation for a soothing treatment room designed to promote relaxation and emotional calm.

Drawings & Planning

All drawings, 3D visuals, concept boards, and FF&E costings were prepared by Pinterior.space. Communication with the client and trades was streamlined via email, ensuring clarity at every stage.

Building Regulations, Health & Safety

Compliance with UK building regulations and health and safety standards was central to planning and implementation.

Fire safety: Materials were selected to meet fire resistance requirements.

Building codes: Structural changes, including removal of the partition wall, were carried out in line with UK building regulations.

Health & safety: Noise management, dust control, and safe working practices were enforced to protect staff and clients during installation.

Accessibility & durability: Design choices ensured the space was functional, long-lasting, and safe for daily commercial use.

By embedding compliance into every stage—from concept to installation—we ensured the project was not only beautiful but also responsible and legally sound.

The drawings illustrate how ambient lighting, task lighting, and accent lighting are distributed throughout the space, ensuring both functionality for therapists and a serene atmosphere for clients.

Timeline & Installation

Planning began in May 2024, with implementation in January 2025. Because the spa remained open, strict scheduling was essential. Noisy phases such as demolition were carefully timed to avoid disruption to ongoing treatments. Every logistical detail was approved and implemented with precision.

Coordination & Communication

We coordinated trades and maintained close communication with the general manager, ensuring smooth delivery. Strong relationships with trusted contractors allowed us to solve challenges—particularly noise management—without compromising deadlines.

Outcome

The project was delivered on time and with great success. The new treatment space achieved the desired calming atmosphere, and the client was delighted. In addition, we uplifted the lounge area with new upholstery, painting, selected furniture, and greenery—enhancing luxury and comfort throughout the spa.
